Housing Assistance

Our client intake process varies based upon the types of programming we offer. In many cases, individuals must first receive a referral from shelter or another partner organization before being connected to Home for Families or a similar organization to receive support. Please see the below information to learn about available resources:

  • If you are homeless, you can call the Homeless Hotline at 614-274-7000.

  • If you’re homeless and between the ages of 18-24, you can either call the Homeless Hotline at 614-274-7000 or the YOP Shop at 614-826-3630. If you need somewhere to go immediately, Star House has a 24-hour drop-in center.

  • If you’re between the ages of 18-24 with a lease in your name and behind on rent, you can call Home for Families directly at 614-461-9247 to inquire about program openings.

  • If you are pregnant and 18+ and street homeless, you can call Mount Carmel Outreach at 614-512-2483, which will make a referral if there are openings in the program. If you are in shelter, shelter staff can make a referral.

  • If you are pregnant and 18+ and either couch surfing or at risk of eviction from your own apartment, you can call Home for Families directly at 614-461-9247 to inquire about program openings.

  • If you are facing housing instability and attend Columbus State Community College, you can obtain a referral from CSCC for housing assistance and supportive services.

  • If you are a current student facing housing instability and working through Ohio Means Jobs of Columbus and Franklin County, Women at Work Career Accelerator Program, New Directions Career Center, Good Columbus, Impact Community Action or Jewish Family Services, you can receive a referral from any of these organizations for housing assistance and supportive services.

  • If you are a former client, you may be eligible for our Family Stabilization program, which provides financial and material assistance along with supportive services. Please reach out to your previous HFF case manager for a referral. If you do not have their contact information, you can call Home for Families directly at 614-461-9247. Please note that you must have been in our programming no longer than two years ago for eligibility.
