Housing Assistance

Emergency Housing Assistance

Home for Families embraces a holistic, strength-based, housing-first philosophy in serving families and youth challenged with housing insecurity. Our case managers first work with clients to provide immediate housing interventions and then create individualized stability plans to address each client’s unique needs.

Case managers provide stabilizing assistance in a variety of areas including, but not limited to:

  • Applying for benefits to increase household income
  • Finding or improving employment
  • Sourcing healthcare and childcare services
  • Repairing credit
  • Obtaining legal services
  • Enrolling in educational/vocational opportunities

Each stabilization journey requires different strategies and services that consider a client’s strengths, experiences, circumstances, and goals for their future.

Our Housing Programming

Rapid Re-housing: We work with families currently in shelter who are referred to us for assistance moving into stable housing. If you are homeless, you can call the Homeless Hotline at 614-274-7000 to be connected to a shelter, which will then refer you to support at our organization or a similar one.

Homeless Prevention for Expectant Mothers: We help stabilize housing and provide supportive services to improve the health and well-being of mother and child. If you are pregnant and 18+ and street homeless, you can call Mount Carmel Outreach at 614-512-2483 and they can refer you to support services if openings are available. If you are pregnant and 18+ and either couch surfing or at risk of eviction from your own apartment, you can call Home for Families directly at 614-461-9247 to inquire about program openings.

Housing Assistance for Transitional Age Youth: We offer housing assistance and programming uniquely designed to meet the needs of young adults aged 18-24.  If you’re homeless and between the ages of 18-24, you can either call the Homeless Hotline at 614-274-7000 or the YOP Shop at 614-826-3630. If you need somewhere to go immediately, Star House has a 24-hour drop-in center. If you’re between the ages of 18-24 with a lease in your name and behind on rent, you can call Home for Families directly at 614-461-9247 to inquire about program openings.

Success and Resiliency Bridge Programming: We work with Columbus State college students in the Success Bridge Housing Stabilization Program to provide housing assistance and supportive services. We also partner with the Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio, Ohio Means Jobs, Goodwill Columbus, New Directions Career Center, and Roads2Work Franklin County, among other organizations, for the Resiliency Bridge Program to provide housing assistance to clients obtaining a vocational education in fast-growing, downturn-resistant, high-paying job fields.

If you are facing housing instability and attend Columbus State Community College, you can obtain a referral from CSCC for housing assistance and supportive services.

If you are a current student facing housing instability and working through Ohio Means Jobs of Columbus and Franklin County, Women at Work Career Accelerator Program, New Directions Career Center, Good Columbus, Impact Community Action or Jewish Family Services, you can receive a referral from any of these organizations for housing assistance and supportive services.
